Interior of TKU Library

The University Library was founded in 1950 in memory of the first chair of the University Board of Trustees, Chu Cheng alias Chueh Sheng, from whom the present name "Chueh Sheng Memorial Library" was derived. On the Tamsui Campus, in addition to the main library, the Chueh Sheng Memorial Library has a branch library in the Chemistry Building and a Maritime Museum, while on the Taipei Campus it has another branch library. Currently the library has 1 million volumes of books, over 4 thousands titles of serial publication and over 139,000 items of non-book materials, and 40 thousands titles of electronic journals.

Constructed in February 1995, the new Main Library was completed and opened in September 1996. However, it was not until November 1996 that the unveiling ceremony was officially held. The nine-story library, which occupies 24,000 square meters of space, has 2,555 seats, 1,400 computer hook-ups and special areas complete with materials on Futures Studies, Taiwan's culture, Tamkang University's history, and the European Info Centre.
